We are so thrilled that our trainer Angela Devonald has been listed as a finalist in the Trainer of the Year Awards by Trainer Courses Limited.
It is so well deserved;Angela adapted the mandatory training course for our students who have English as their second language. She encouraged the students to tell the group about their own cultural values so that they could be mutually explored in a way that made the students feel valued and therefore encouraged to learn.
Angela ran the thread of the social care code of conduct through the training – using examples of care practice to illustrate such values as confidentiality and diversity.
Where we had anxious or unconfident students, she took them aside during the break to encourage them and to help them to learn on a one-to-one basis – she then met with the students later to help in their mentorship and continued learning.
Throughout the pandemic we only had face to face classes when absolutely necessaryand Angela set up the room to ensure that the protocols were in place to minimize the risk of COVD transmission.
Angela introduced a competence assessment regime into the company – which took place either in the classroom or in the clients’ home (with their permission.)
Throughout her classes we could hear the students participating enthusiastically throughout the day -there was a great deal of laughter coming from the training room.
The documented feedback that we have had from the students include: “the best teacher that I have ever had” “Angela really understands how difficult it is to be a live-in carer”
Well done, Angela, we really appreciate all your hard work!
